Welcome to MustangBots VEX knowledge base

The robotics activities at Canyon Vista Middle School are supported by cvmsstem.org. We hope that this knowledge base can help to make your first year VEX experience the best it can be. If you have any questions, please contact us at robotics@cvmsstem.org.

About VEX and VRC

VEX Robotics has robotics programs for elementary through university students and VEX V5 is for middle and high school students. Robotics teams (we recommend 4-6 students per team) can use the VEX V5 system to build robots to compete in the annual VEX Robotics Competition. In this competition, teams design, build, and program robots to compete at tournaments. The tournament champions, alongside other award winners, qualify for their regional culminating event, and ultimately, the world event.

About V5 System

The VEX V5 Construction and Control System is a metal-based robotics platform with bolt-together pieces that can be used to construct custom robotic mechanisms. The robot is controlled by a programmable (block-style, python, or c++) unit known as the VEX V5 Brain, which is equipped with 21 motor and sensor ports.

About the Game

VRC is a non-traditional team activity- it provides the benefits of being on a team, just with robots and tools instead of sports equipment. Kids still learn cooperation, leadership, emotional control, and how to work through the highs and lows of competition.
